Just a suggestion but what if units could earn xp from blowing up other units and after they earn enough xp they go up in ranks and get better guns or better range and maybe even repair themselves at the highest lvl

Um, that would make repair units/buildings void, which won't happen, since it would be affecting gameplay (Etros needed for Sentos re-supply). And I think its not worth the effort, since you won't really have units for that long on a battlefield.

As Cable said that would make certain units, and structures useless. It also does not really make sense. (How can units get new weapons just by killing other units?)

Technically, the only pilots you have are on the Dropship. So if one pilot flies say a Gamma Cruiser in one mission his experience would carry over to the next, if he survived and re-boarded the Dropship.

However, remember that in AT 1.3 there were units that might possibly have been unmanned. Also, if you+Blair (or others) are on your own in the future then you would worry about running out of pilots so unmanned units make sense. Unmanned units earning XP? No ... the computer seems to handle almost everything in QL from the targeting systems to the engines, so the XP of the pilots may be mostly irrelevant even on manned ships.

However, that's not to say that you wouldn't get access to non-FTA units in the course of QL:POJ ... so there will be "new" units as you+Blair proceed through life (that's almost like XP).

If you like you could think of units from the future as also having more XP, since they have either been around for 50 years waiting for you, or are built in the future and anyway have access to future technology that might increase their range, firing power, speed, armor, or even change their attributes a bit.

Lets just keep the unit ranks to Command and Conquer? Hell, I'm off to go play Generals now Tongue

I'd like the idea, but then it just wouldnt be fare to the players who join in later on, facing off against Super Gamma Cruisors?

Yeah, I don't think the ranks things would work- unless you blocked newer people from coming in.

Who would do that? Some want a higher ranking, and they dont care if they seem just. If that was implemented, I'd have Wage or Kill just sending in new players to upgrade my units and make it easier for me Tongue Sounds cool, but, not likely.

But then again you should make rooms for all the Elite people that have these upgrades. Lets say that someone just joined and they had lv 1 units and tried to join a room it should stop them from joining cause there units must be atleast lv 15 or so.

But i dont think you guys will alow that

This kind of system might also adversely affect gameplay when the Quantum Gate and the point of unit advancement.

Since Price of Justice takes place in 2153, then let's say that the units built in that time are "Level 2" units (Level 1 being the units from 2103, Initial Tactics). When you go to 2203, you will get to use "Level 3" units under the right conditions. If you bring these "Level 3" units back to 2153, they will be improved upon and when you go back to 2203, they will be "Level 4" units.

This advancement continues for some time.

However, with a system involving unit improvement within a time period, it may make going to the future to obtain better technology moot if you can improve in the same time period simply by racking up kills.

Wait...go back to 2203? so...you mean we go forward another 50 years? or do you mean 2103...cause that confused me...

POJ is set in 2153; ie 50 years later than IT. So yes, in a sense, we go forwards by 50 years. Basically if you brought back already advanced units, improved them, then the units that you'll get 50 years later will be similarly improved.

Negative. Initial Tactics is set in 2103, and Price of Justice in 2153.

All you need to know is that POJ is 50 years after IT; and in POJ you can travel forwards 50 years, to obtain better technology. So compared to IT the technology will be 100 years more advanced.

Basically if you bring back more advanced units, and get to upgrade them, then the future units will also be upgraded, making them much stronger than the ones you initially brought back.

If you upgraded your units at the time of IT, then POJ units (set in the future) will also be upgraded.

How about this idea for unit ranks the max lvl exp for units is 10lvl the unit kills a another unit they lvl up by one. This is how it works for your unit to reach it highest lvl you have to kill more uints: it can't be your own. This will apply to defences to make it fair. So once a unit levels up's it heath will incease and so will the damage. this will also apply to AI.

Quantm Legacy is not a game made to upgrade like some people think. Y\'all thinking on the scales of QL being one of those games like Empire Earth or one of those small online games that dont have no story line, you would just shoot enemies and upgrade after each wave. QL is more advanced than that(graphics, storyline, etc) and is base as more as a lets just say real life game. In real life you want be able to ugrade yor units just by killing someone or something like that. I seen the question of units upgrading in two other forums before too, and I dont think its going to happen.

If it would help, if someone would like a game where the units get tougher as you advance throught waves then you can ask a SDK Tester to make a level like that for you. Just tell the person everything you want it to be. There make it if they can. Wink
